Is charging cheaper than gas?

Usually yes at home, and sometimes no at a fast charger. For 100 miles:

Fast charging costs more per mile than home charging because the network pays for expensive equipment and demand charges. If you charge mostly at home and fast charge on trips, you will usually spend much less than on gas. If you depend on fast chargers daily, the savings can shrink or disappear, depending on your local prices and gas mileage. These figures use the median 2026-27 EV rating and the US averages; the calculator lets you use your own.
